“Augie’s Secrets: The Minneapolis Mob and the King of the Hennepin Strip”

Neal Karlen

“The Minneapolis Mob”? Yes, there was one, and Augie Ratner, owner of “Augie’s” strip club in downtown Minneapolis and the author’s great uncle, while not exactly a gangster, certainly knew them all. This books if full of stories about the Minneapolis underworld from the 30’s through the early 60’s and full of stories about Runyonesque characters long forgotten. I’d recommend it to anyone interested in Twin Cities history, organized crime, or gambling (the “Minneapolis Line” line spread pre-dated Jimmy the Greek, by the way).
